Well, I tried the card in the computer. It was OK but not what I thought it would be but thats down to the PSU again isn't it. Plenty of free software from MSI as well, that tells me things about this heap of shit that I call a computer, that I didn't even know existed! And the nVidia software that is for the graphics is well bloody confusing - well, for me anyway. Loads of stuff I can do to the card to set it as I want it but I don't know what the f**k most of it even means, never mind what it does! LOL! Oh well, I suppose I will learn? It's just a case of suck it and see and if it works well, then don't mess with it? If it ain't broken, don't try to fix it (an old English saying that means to not mess with things you know nothing about), in my case anyway seeing as I am a bit thick when it comes to computers Oh well, off to bed now. Hospital for tests tomoz, so gotta be up early. Thanks for talking and for all your good advice again Tef. Just what does Tefra mean? LOL! Cheers! Mike.

So are you happy with your new toy ? You should see a significant performance improvement in games. I don't know much about the nvidia new drivers and control panel but i will be glad to answer you any question you may have.

Tefra is a greek word which means "ashes"

I took the card out in the end as it seemed to be slowing things down to much on my computer as soon as I had installed the software? I know that I have to disable the onboard graphics in the bios but when I went there to do that, it was set for PCI-E already by default, for the onboard 6100 which must be PCI-E as well? There are only three options for changing the video adapter in the bios. PCI, PCI-E and onboard. I would have thought that by default, the bios should have been set to onboard as that is what the nVidia 6100 is, onboard? Now I am even more confused? I have not played a game yet with the new grfx vard is as although it wasnt getting to hot at all, I didn't want to damage anything until I can get a higher reated PSU. My dad's side of the family are from around the Med. My dad is Maltese and was born in Sliema and I have been there many times and would love to live there.

You must set PCI-E for video adapter when you install the new card.
In your case the bios probably detected the new card and set the new option for ya.

Even if it's an nvidia card too you should perform a full uninstall of the old drivers and install the drivers again.

Yeah we are lucky living around mediterranean. Hot Sun almost for 9 months, great sea, good food you can't ask for more.

Cheers for the advice. Even without the new card in, the bios always says PCI-E instead of onboard. Even when set to default settings, it always defaults back to PCI-E whatever grfx card it is using?

I think I have decided on what PSU I am going to but? It's this one:

ebuyer.com - Cases PSUs Barebones » Power Supplies » Extra Value » Product details

I can just about afford this one, it's cheap and should be quiet with two fans in it. It's only 450w but that should be plenty for me as I don't intend to upgrade the grfx card for some time yet. I will try thenew grfx card agin over the weekend but I don't think it will do much until I get the new PSU?

From the user reviews it looks good, you selected a pretty fancy psu.

Hi and thanks both of you. If it had not been for Tefra giving me sound advice and really helping me, I would'nt probably be sitting be here typing this out now as the computer would have probably blown itself up! I have been on a few other forums as well and some of the guys on them are totally and down right bloody rude! They think that because they have all whistle and bells gaming machines and think they know it all, we all have them! Some of us don't and need advice, just as they did one day when they first started! Well, the card is back in and it's looking good so far? Nothing getting to hot and still cold air blowing out of the PSU vents. The grfx card is a bit warm but then I suppose it would be doing what its doing. It's definately not hot though and I hope the CPU will be OK as well and not get overheated? I have left the4 side panel off of the computer just in case I have to get in there quickly if things do go tits up, plus, it will let more cool air through the machine as well? Right, I am off to play my first game with my new grfx card in (not actually played one yet as I was a bit worried about it etc). Will let you know when I have finished, what happened. If you don't hear from me for a few days, take it that the bloody thing screwed up and I lost the lot! Hehehe! Cheers! Mick (I accidently typed an 'N' when I joined and so now it's NickY G instead of MickY G). I think I was drunkl at the time? LOL!

I also looked at these two as well, so still not quite sure yet exactly which PSU I am going to buy?

ebuyer.com - Cases PSUs Barebones » Power Supplies » Coolermaster » Product details

ebuyer.com - Cases PSUs Barebones » Power Supplies » Antec » Product details

But I will probably stick with the original choice becasue of the price and the positive reviews. Just wish I had a perspex window on the side panel of my computer now? You would have thought that companies like Acer, would sell replacement perspex side panels to fit all their case s(seeing as they are all basically the same), so you could just buy them without having to fart-arse around without the correct tools in my case and make the damned things yourself, which I hasten to add, I would be totally useless at!

Don't worry about overheat, the 7300 doesn't get very hot. Go and play as always. If your current psu can't hold the extra load you will just get a random restart.

For the new psu i would just choose the one with the higher watt rating and with the better warranty.

For the nickname if you want i can fix that for you, just let me know exactly what nickname you want and when you are ready.
