Newbie and new computer (nVidia) - Page 10

Sorry Tefra, i was a bit hacked off seeing as everything seems to be going wrong after I have spent so much money, put the PSU in myself and it works, got an extra 1GB of RAM and now it's not benching anywhere near what it was - sorry again. I didnt realise that SATA HDD could be powered by either 4 pin molex or SATA connectors? Now I do, thanks, Yes, the computer recognises the extra 1Gb of RAM as in System it is saying I have 2Gb of RAM installed. I have tried the 1Gb module on its own and the computer works but still not getting the benchmarks it was before I put it in with the other two 512mb sticks. I have trreid every permutation with the RAM but to no avail. I suppose I will just have to stick with it and wait until I can afford another matching 1Gb? It's very disheartening though when you have spent so much money and time and done things all on your own and they work, just to find that later on, it all goes tits-up? Oh well, that's computers for you I suppose? Cheers!

sometimes you can get really annoyed by computers i mean really really but thats the learningprocess so keep on going micky

So what do I do then weasel? I thought it would bench at a much better mark with the extra RAM in. It's all working Ok and the games are playing brilliantly. I just wish the benchmark scores would be as good as they were when I only had the 2 x 512 RAM in but even with just them two in now, it still doesn't bench anywhere near as good as it did (lucky to get 6,000 when I was getting nearly 14,000)? Perhaps it's just me being stupid and worrying about nothing? There must be a program available so I can test the RAM and somehow get it working correctly again?

i believe in former reply's you said you had a cousin that could help you out its not that i don't want to help you out but he can have a clear view at whats wrong with your computer

Hi weasel!
Just a quick update on what's happening so far with my computer. As yet, the side panel window has still not been done! That's on account of my cousin saying he will do something and then not bothering to reply to my emails when I ask him when I can take the computer to his place and get it done! However, it will get done soon - I hope? I have just purchased another 80Gb SATA HDD from eBay. Brand new and only just under £30 (OEM) including p&p! I am getting another one next month as well, from the same person but this time it will be a 160Gb HDD (just under £40)! Well, that's about it. As and when anything interesting happens, I shall let you know.
