FILL4U is on a distinguished road
Default 2900 vs 8800

OK I have been planning on getting a 8800 GTS 640mb for a LONG time but wanted to see what the 2900XT had to offer on release (I was a HUGE ATI fan until the 6600GT).

So far from reviews/benchies the 2900 is one of the biggest dissapointments ever for me..... I mean getting stomped on almost every benchy/test conducted when it was releasedBUT... recently I have been hearing what I'll consider rumors until I see some hard numbers. I have been hearing that with the new drivers the 2900 is catching up to, and will possibly pass the 8800 as far as performance.

Anyone have any input ??

Personally I'd skip the 8800 gts and go for a 8800gt, although technically a lower model, you'll be hard pressed to find more than a handful of game where this cheats does worse than the gts. and if you have some cash, but the gtx isn't your cup of tea, I'd go with the 8800 gts 512 edition. It's a beast and and both are great bang for buck.

Generally, because the question is 2900 vs 8800, 8800 is proved to be one of the most successful series in nvidia gpu list. With king the 8800GTX, a card that started selling more than a year ago is still selling like crazy and it still can run most of the games out there with maximum settings.

I can't remember such success since the ati's r400 (9800, 9700).

Now the new 8800GTS 512mb is a great solution for middle budget card, but as weasel suggested g90 series is just around the corner, you could wait a little big longer if you are not in a hurry to upgrade.

lol you know guy a new generation is always around the corner dealing with such technologies. If you think like that, and add in the "never get it first, so they can iron out the problems" you'd never get anywhere :P. But then again I'm a firm believe in buying hardware 2-3 months after it's first shipment. Better safe than sorry .. well at least when it comes to my computer :P.
