So I finally have just under a week of free time until I go back to the dorms of Cal State University San Marcos.
I built my new computer including a Core 2 Quad Q9450. My specs are all currently updated. I want opinions on if I should overclock it or just leave it as is?

weasel you were in fact the very person who I though would respond to this first since I noticed in your signature that you had one which was overclocked.
The question wasn't can I but rather should I. To further clarify, do you think it's fast enough normally, or do you believe it is definitely worth overclocking with the negative effect of shortening the lifespan of the processor, although it doesn't shorten it by much anyways.

i have it running 24/7 on 3200 mhz no problem at all and you will notice the performance increase but its is actually fast enough at stockspeeds i just like to oc it.now a little story friend of me had a e6750 wich also runs standart at 2x2.66mhz he had it overclocked to 3300mhz and half year later he couldn't even oc it to 3.2
![]() normally if your temps are not to high your cpu won't wear out fast

Funny story, my old desktop has my Pentium D940 which has a 3200 mhz clock normally. I had it oc'd to ~3800 mhz for a few months with my thermaltake fan/heatsink.
After about 3 months it wouldn't overclock at all anymore. It wasn't like it stopped working or anything it was like the motherboard was simply saying no. The temperatures were actually pretty low as well for being overclocked. But anyways I think I might leave it with the standard clock. Maybe I'll overlock it if I ever want that slight boost in speed.
