Tefra's PC Specs

The article is here
I hope you like it . Feel free to ask anything you want . It isn't much but you can get an idea on how to setup a small local network and kick your friends ass in your favorite games .

I have published this quide again one year ago in greek translation and it was a big success there

Default Nice Chart Dude

Great job Im sure I'll poach that if you dont mind, but I'll give you credit tho.
I do have a question. When I use a Router to join 2 Pcs are they able to communicate using only the Game server or do they still need to be in a "Network"same workgroup etc.Example-I have a home network and if I add another pc (using my router) does that new pc need anything other than the ip and port to be able to join the server?Does it need to be in my workgroup?
Also does the server need to be on a pc by itself? Can I run a server and play from the same pc?

the rule is very simple same workgroup and different computer name for every single pc. Yeap of course you can play on the server pc . Of course make sure you have selected the more powerfull computer to play the role of the server for better performance of the lan .

Something else , many people were asking me in the past why to pre-assign ip's to every computer and stop computer from auto search for the settings , if windows can do this . The answer is pretty easy because your lan will be hell faster and you won't have problems like establish connection delay or disconnects . Plus it's easier to configure firewalls .

The difficult part of a local network setup is the firewall settings. Most firewalls are so damn difficult on this.

I know, most of them are so stubborn , the easiest firewall i have seen is the kaspersky anti-hackeren, everything is done automatically.

Speaking of routers and networks
I am wanting to setup a simple server (AnalogX).
I followed the directions but no joy.
I have 2 pc on my network 192.168.1.100,and 192.168.1.101
I am behind a LinksysBEFW11S4 router
I can run the simple server on 192.168.1.101 w/ ports 80,21 forwarded to that pc.
My question is: What is the address to the simple server? Is it my ip and a port #, or is it my ip address?
Does anyone have experience running apache or any other FTP server?

You can read here a very nice tutorial on how o setup a ftp server.

I have used this guide many times in the past , i personally used the BulletProof FTP.

I was wanting to serve up a few audio files. Nothing illegal tho.
I was wondering if being behind a router changes anything.
The file lengths would be about 200MB total daily upload be about 400MB
Should I set up accounts for people to log into or keep it open to to anyone that finds it, (without any write rights etc)?
I tried to log into it from the second pc using the ip of the router and it never loads.
Any ideas would help. I'll try BulletProoFTP and see what I get.
